Facebook Messenger Is Getting A Material Design Update

by Rassoul EdjiMarch 7, 2016

If you follow updates to Facebook Messenger you know that there has been word for a while of a Material Design update for it being passed around for a while now. Today, David Marcus announced the Material Design update to Messenger on Facebook.

David Marcus, who is the lead developer on the Messenger said in a Facebook post:

If you’re using Messenger on Android, you’ve been wanting a brand new material design for a bit. Any major redesign of an essential app used by hundreds of millions of people around the world is painstakingly hard, and that’s why we took every precaution to ensure you’d truly enjoy this evolution.

The update keeps the same philosophy as before, keeping the navigation tabs up top for conversations, groups, people, and settings. The icons have been updated to their Material Design counterparts which gives the design some more consistency.

The update is said to be rolling out today so you will have to be patient until it hits your phone! Tell us what you think of this update in the comments section below!
